nihkee_moolah I wonder what was the perfect boy for Joubert/Dalens/Foncine (aka the holy retro ya trinity). The Boy, if you wish. Was the Boy supposed to be adventurous? Loyal? Joyful? Beautiful from the inside and out? Have his priorities straight? Love his friends? All of the above? I wonder if Eric could achieve the status of the Boy, given he was most likely isolated to an extent his whole life. I mean he did, he had Jef and Nils before the whole Christian thing happened.
Plus didn't he almost lost his status of the Boy after he kinda like left Christian to die there? Or did he? I mean he went full dramatic and wanted to commit suicude because he thought he had murdered Christian, but thankfully his vision (if you ask me, the vision scene was dumb, I like to interpret it as the braincell they shared returned to Eric) came in time so they only got away with a slightly bruised Eric and a scared Christian.
Although the Boy from those novels was undoubtedly Jef. As I mentioned in a previous comment, he murdered the Jansens' first enemy, a military trained and all the stuff nazi dude, in nothing but an underwear, pushing him off of some ladders, barefoot (although Eric wasn't so helpless himself either) (yes, I linked both of the versions, but like, just observe how cute Eric in the background is, in an "Oh Jef, I'm so afraid >~< I'm so afraid big mean man would kill me " way). So yes, going by all the charachteristics of the Boy I listed above, Jef would be the closest. Although he isn't quite joyful, based on all the pictures with him. But given the fact that Eric literally murdered a wild boar himself to save one of his scout friends, he would qualify as well.
